The man in the middle...

For all those people who have been dying to read my reviews on the world cup, here's something... the most important man on a football field at any given point of time is the referee. He controls the game and the players. Going by all that, you might have expected better standards at fifa's flagship event. The refereeing at this edition of the world cup has been abysmal to say the least. the men in black have been card happy...flashing reds and yelows like there was no tomorrow..and they haven't been helped much by players going down like rag dolls everytime they were touched. that certainly affected the tempo of the games and ruined a few like the one between portugal and holland in which both teams finished with nine men. Fifa have a lot of work on their hands if they are to avoid catastrophes like that in south africa in 2010. Now a bit about my failed dark horses, the czech republic. Riding high on european success, the czech came to germany hoping to create some waves. And they did just that by beating the USA comprehensively in their first game. But the injuries to key strikers baros and koller dealt a blow to their campaign. Ghana exploited their weaknesses in defence, played some attacking football and caused an upset. All crdit to the black stars for doing the unthiknable and beating the no 2 ranked team in the world. But their run came to an end in the pre quarters when the brazilian bandwagon rolled over them on the way to hopefully another cup. the world will remmber ghana for their unique brand of attacking football and never say die attitude. About england the less said the better.Sven seems to have taken the team backwards on their quest with the team turning in drab performances match after match. If it had'nt been for some brilliant individual goals from the likes of gerrard and joe cole, beckham and co would have been packing their bags before now. Another team that gave it all but lost out in round two was australia. the socceroos were first timers at the world cup, having reached there via a playoff with much fancied uruguay. their world cup dream came to an end 5 seconds before probable extra time against italy due to a debatable penalty decision.Totti smashed in a perfect penalty nad broke aussie hearts. Finally France put to rest never ending criticism by showing up with the performance deserving of world champions. The press were all but ready to put out obituaries on the french team and zidane in particular. But just when you had discounted les blues, they turned up an outstanding performance against favourites spain. It was perhaps fitting that zidane rounded off their performance with the third goal after speculation that we had seen the last of this pastmaster of football. That's about it for now.Until the quarter finals...

The spelling conundrum

What is it with Ekta kapor? (Or is it ektaa kapoor, or does the name have two k's?). Besides inflicting prime time torture on us through her endless sagas of saas bahu serials and other nonsensical crap on national television, she seems to have introduced a whole new concept. From kahanii to kasautii (watch the spellings people) to kkusum to lately krishh (i'm still not sure i have the spelling correct...does it have two k's?), it's the coming of the letter K. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that's the shortest way to success, adding an extra letter here and there to your latest ventures, whether it's a movie, television serial, a business, or even a new building..There's a letter for your every need. And of course there's the complete treatment. For all round benefits, just change your name! What the heck is a few extraaa a's compared to life long happiness? (The pundits assure me a few extra i's in my name will greatly improve my luck with the ladies.now that's a risk i might be willing to take. having a corny name but a hot girl suits me just fine) From the erstwhile mithun Madhusudan And the new (and hopefully improved) Miiithun Madhussudaan, it's goodbye for now.

Women to kill for....

DISCLAIMER: due to the unending protest from some of my friends (damn them) who want some of their favourite women to be added to this list(considering the reach of this blog ), i am being forced to add this disclaimer. This post in no way reflects popular opinion on the most beautiful women in the world. All it has are some observations by yours truly based solely on his idea of beauty, and not on some mass poll. So for all those of you who have opinions please do not hesitate to add comments. (for one thing it actually feels someone is reading my blog when i see comments) There is a fine line between beautiful and sexy...The most appelaing women toy with this boundary. Think about it. Angelina Jolie Here's someone whos seems never to be off the list of the world's sexiest women. With a perfectly sculpted face and the most luscious lips i have ever seen, this woman can have any man salivating if she turns it on... Drew barrymore. A smile to kill for..that's the usp of this leading lady..The only blonde on this list (so far) she knocks you over with oodles of charm and a smile that catapults you to the limits of ecstacy (it has me in seizures every time) Soha Ali khan A tribute to some of of our very own home grown beauties..The genes of mom and dad (who were quite the couple in their time) sure seem to have carried forward through this beautiful lady. There's just something about her that is hard to pinpoint..maybe it's her innocence, her smile, her face..i dont know. She might have looked ordinary in rdb..but in aahista she looks absolutely divine.. Vidya Balan (I don't know how i forgot her in the first place).. According to me she is one woman who can carry of the traditional saree clad look with perfect poise and elegance (maybe a lil bit of a parineeta hangover)..With a fresh face and a body to boot, she is another Indian beauty who has ppl drooling. My advice to her....Don't even try western outfits....They're just not made for you.

To V

"Remember remember the fifth of november...." Those who've seen the movie "V for Vendetta" will know exactly what i'm talking about. Another magnificent creation from the stables of the wachowski brothers, this movie grabs you by the balls and squeezes so hard you dont know whether to scream out in pain or just pass out. If you think the matrix was the limit of these guy's creative expertise, you dont know how wrong you were. The movie is set in a totalitarian society somewhere in the near future (shades of the novel "1984" by george orwell perhaps) where people are ruled by a faceless dictator and his minions. V is the name of the protagonist shown throughout the movie only in a guy fawkes mask. When i first saw the movie, i was totally mesmerized by this guys acting. I mean, he had a mask on and he couldnt show ant emotion. But his dialogues and articulation will just have you hooked. imagine my surprise when i found out that the guy behind the mask was agent smith (think matrix). kudos to him for an mazing performance. The screenplay is dark, according to the mood of the film, and some of the dialogues and sequences are truly mind blowing. Natalie protman does a wonderful job in the female lead.. I don't think i need to say much more.... If i had to rate this movie it'd probably be 10/10.... yeah i know it truly has me floored. As V says "Remember remember the fifth of november..."

There are no easy matches in the world cup..

Well well well.....The world cup began with a goal feast from germany and costa rica and then an upset by least fancied ecuador ...They rolled over favourites poland by 2 goals to none...and then that set the stage for another debutant team t&t against another strong team sweden. The soca warriors put in a lion hearted performance with ten men to fight off attack after attack from the swedes. All credit to keeper shaka hislop for fending off some brilliant moves from the swedish lineup.. In the end the soca warriors came away witha totally unexpected point...and there was heartbreak for the swedes. And then it was time for argentina to battle it out against the lions from africa..ivory coast.. It was'nt a pretty first half for the ivory coast as argentina thumped in two goals from each of their strikers, crespo and saviola..the second goal as a result of some brilliant build up play from the argentinian midfield. The second half proved to be a bit of a turnaround as the ivory coast came out bursting on all cylnders to get something out of th match. they finally got their reward as chelsea striker drogba pulled one back after an instnctive finish. But argentina held on and got an important three points in the proverbial group of death. Ivory coast showed that they are no pushovers too. Watch out for them!

Surprise Surprise!!

Guess who are the number 2 ranked team in the fifa rankings...no it's not england..not even france or argentina...its the czech republic (surprised? i sure was).So are they contenders? THey sure are (at least sports editors of espn tell me so)...with palyers like pavel nedved and milan baros in their line up, and the seemingly unsurmountable petr cech guarding goal, they are capable of setting the cat among the pigeons come jun 9th.

World Cup fever!!!!!

And so it begins...the fifa world cup 2006 is finally here. With bated breaths (and don't tell me i can't start a sentence with and) the whole world watches, as the titans of "el juego hermoso" or "the beautiful game" take on each other in the most eagerly awaited sporting event of the world. Favourites? the boys from brazil of course...with the likes of ronaldinho, adriano, kaka in their line up, htey are capable of giving nightmares to the best defences around the world. And not to forget ronaldo, who will be keen to leave a mark on what might be his last world cup. Dark horses? Germany. make no mistake.the pressure will be enormous on the home team to lift the covetd trophy.the last time they won was as also as the hosts. But the advantage of a home crowd can only go so far..the previous edition of the finals saw them finishing as runners up.But they were outclassed, by the one man army of ronaldo.. Can michael ballack (who by the way joined english champions chelsea for a record undisclosed fee) lead them to immortality? expect reviews of the best matches (and those i stay up to watch) right here.....

What th hell am i supposed to write about?

i know what you must be thinking..."whats this crazy guy talking about??it's his blog ..he can write whatever he feels like"...i know. i know..but it doesnt work that way with me...i have to have a topic..any topic..to write on...and i cannot think up that topic by myself...(right about now you must thinking about clicking that next button on your screen and move on to something more worthwhile....instead of wasting your time over some loser who doesnt even know what he wants to write about, but please, bear with me)..If anyone is actually reading this (yeah right....like anyones actually crazy enough to do that..) i'd like to tell you now that you probably would have been better off clicking that next button and tring your luck with some other blog...because this has been a total waste of your time (trust me. i know)...and so i return to my worthless existence.. having wasted my (and hopefully your)time... Until We Meet Again.

Poring over the past...........

I wrote this one for our magazine in school..We were given a choice to write on either the past or the future.....I dont know why i chose the past.....but it just clicked....Maybe it was because the past is always something you want to leave behind and not think about...maybe its because remembering what happened years ago is sometimes very painful. But reflection is a way to get to know yourself better. The past is dead and buried and nobody can change that, but to totally ignore a part of our lives is definitely not the way to go.. Yesterday..... As misty as a winter morn. Images in black and white Come streaming back. The unseen hand moulds and crafts, As trials and tribulations leave their mark. Yesterday has come and gone, Experience is it's only reward. Time Flows. Dusk descends. A new day begins.

how do you know when you're in love?

I think its a very profound question...How do you know if that special person is the one for you?Is it that you just know? I'm really confused..never having been in love myself...but i've tried to put down some of my fellings here...i don't know if this stuff will ever happen to me..but hey that's what poetry is all about right?giving voice to feelings that are cocooned in the deepest reaches of your heart? when a smile makes you forget everything, when a touch is all that you need to transport you to heaven, when words seem to much of a burden, when each day brings a new promise, when time seems to stand still......... and you are not yourself........ ThaT is LoVe....
